OSRS Ironman Smithing Guide (1–99)
All methods listed are Ironman-safe — no GE, no handouts.
Levels 1–15: Bronze Bars
- Mine Copper + Tin and smelt into Bronze bars.
- Locations:
- Smith
bronze items like daggers, axes, or arrowtips until 15.
Levels 15–30: Iron Bars (Optional Smelting Ring of Forging)
- Mine Iron ore → smelt into bars.
- Use Ring of forging to get 100% smelt rate (saves ore).
- Bank or smith useful items like iron dart tips or knives.
Levels 30–40: Steel Bars (Smelt + Smith)
- Mine Coal + Iron → Smelt into Steel bars.
- Use for dart tips (good for Fletching/Ranged), or steel platebodies for XP.
- Use Furnace in Edgeville, Varrock, or Port Phasmatys.
Levels 40–70+: Blast Furnace (Gold or Steel)
- Complete The Giant Dwarf to unlock Keldagrim.
- Use the Blast Furnace with:
- AFK-friendly and scalable with stamina potions & coal bag.
Levels 70–99 Options
- Blast Furnace (Gold): Best XP/hr (up to 300k/hr with full setup).
- Smithing Mithril/Adamantite Dart Tips (useful for training Ranged & Fletching).
- Smith platebodies if banking for High Alch profits or XP only.
- Giant’s Foundry: Unique XP + reward shop (great for Ironmen).
Useful Unlocks
- Coal Bag from Motherlode Mine (helpful for Blast Furnace).
- Goldsmith Gauntlets from Family Crest quest.
- Ice Gloves if you plan to do Blast Furnace solo.
Alternative: Giant's Foundry (30+ Smithing)
- Accessible via Giant’s Foundry miniquest.
- Turns old bars into custom blades for decent XP and rewards (like molds, smithing tools).
- Useful for mixing efficiency with steady progress.
